Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: Construction work is going on for the much-awaited Cancer Care Centre here at Capital Hospital.
The proposed cancer centre had got administrative approval in April 2022. The Works Department floated tender in March this year and a Gurgaon-based company has started construction work winning the bid.
A budget of Rs 50 crore has been laid out for construction of the six-story building - Rs 22.40 crore for civil work, Rs 12.39 crore for electrical work and Rs 8,61,79,000 for PH work.
Similarly, Rs 1.12 crore has been estimated for furniture and Rs 1.40 crore for accessories & site development.
The proposed Cancer Care Centre is a Level - II category. There will be 50 beds in the first phase along with ICU beds and high-end diagnosis facilities. The patients will be provided chemothrapy and radiotherapy treatment here, said Capital Hospital director Dr Laxmidhar Sahoo. However, the Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography (PET-CT) Scan facility will not the avialable in the first phase, he added.
The cancer centre would not only enhance cancer care services for the Capital city and adjoining districts but also ease the burden on Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC) at Cuttack, said a health department official.
Earlier, a cancer care unit was opened at the Capital Hospital where free consultancy and chemotherapy are being provided since 2016.
