Bhubaneswar, May 3: In a tragic incident, a B.Tech student was found dead inside the hostel of a private engineering college in Bhubaneswar. The deceased, identified as Biswas Swain from Mayurbhanj district, reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a towel.

The news of the student’s death triggered disturbances within the hostel campus. Students alleged that Biswas had been subjected to mental harassment and protested throughout the night, raising slogans outside the university gates.

Infocity police, along with the Zone-6 ACP, reached the spot and tried to pacify the students. As the situation grew tense, Bhubaneswar DCP arrived at the scene with two platoons of police to control the situation and began a formal investigation.

During the inquiry, batchmates of Biswas, along with some senior students who shared the hostel room with him, were recorded for statements. Police have also detained a senior student for further questioning to gather more information.

Family members of the deceased have been informed and are expected to arrive for the post-mortem examination, confirmed the DCP.

Authorities are continuing the investigation to determine the circumstances leading to this unfortunate incident.
