Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: Mystery shrouded over the death of a youth after his body was found hanging from a tree in a cashew forest in Daruthenga in Chandaka area of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
As per reports, some locals spotted the hanging body and alerted the police. Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and brought the body down. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
It remains unclear whether this is a case of suicide or murder.
The shocking incident comes just two weeks after a taxi driver took his own life in the same area, following his abduction by a group of youths over a job scam.
Sources said that the deceased, identified as Bidyadhar Sahoo (32) of Aranga village in Khurda and a driver with an online cab service, was found dead near Jujhagada village under Chandaka police limits after being missing for five days.
While the case initially appeared to be a murder, further investigation revealed that Sahoo had died by suicide. He was reportedly under severe pressure after failing to repay money he had taken from job seekers with false promises of employment. Sahoo, along with his accomplice Jyostna Rani Khuntia, a job consultant, had allegedly defrauded several individuals from Gajapati, Balasore, and Jajpur districts of more than Rs 1.5 crore.
Subsequently, four individuals were arrested on charges of abetment to suicide.
