Bhubaneswar, April 16: In view of growing population, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has planned to set up three new zones.

The civic body has written to the departmen of general administration for allotment of land for construction of new zone offices.

Now, there are 67 wards in three zones - north, south-east and south-west having a population of around 15 lakh.

In an effort to streamline administration and supervision of developmental works in the growing city, three new zones will be created under the BMC jurisdiction. With creation of the new zones the total number of zones will be six, said a senior official.

There are 25 wards in the south-east zone, including 12 wards of Ekamra Assembly constituency and 13 wards of Bhubaneswar Central.

This zone will be bifurcated into two considering the limits of the two Assembly constituencies. Similarly, north zone will be bifurcated by Jayadev Vihar- Nandan kanan Road. However, a decision is yet to be taken on the basis south-west zone to be divided.

Besides, the civic body has planned to include Tamando, Gothapatana, Dhauli, Lingipur, Basuaghai and Raghunathpur panchayats under its jurisdiction.
