Bhubaneswar, July 19: Around seven acres of government land has been encroached by land mafias in the foothills of Shikharchandi.
Recently, some mafias have sold a half acre of encroached government land to gullible people by erecting boundaries. According to locals, some mafias have allegedly encroached on acres of land in the area and were illegally selling land patches to many individuals for lakhs of rupees. Plotting of the government lands has been done and many buyers have already constructed building on those lands.
People, who bought lands from the mafias, have admitted that they had paid lakhs of rupees for it without any documentation.
Around seven acres of land from Chunakuli village adjoining Sikharchandi foothills have been encroached by mafias and plotting has been done with 30 feet road for communication to individual plots. It is reported that the mafias are selling a 900 sqft plot at Rs 1 lakh without land records.
As they have constructed boundaries around the encroached lands along with plotting and road, gullible people are easily falling in their trap, said a villager on condition of anonymity.
