Bhubaneswar, July 18: Two youth have been arrested for blackmailing a woman with nude video after befriending her on social media, Balianta police said on Thursday.
The arrested have been identified as Akshay Das (28) of Kambhilo area in Khordha district and Sheikh Akram (30) of West Bengal, residing in Vipul Garden apartment at Ghatikia in the city.
Police have seized three mobile phones and a car from their possession.
According to police, the two were running an organisation named Trishakti Foundation. They made friendship with a woman of Balianta area on the city outskirts on social media platform Instagram. After exchanging their phone numbers with each other, the two accused inspired the victim to pursue MBA with a promise to manage of her study expenses.
Later, they took screen recording of a nude video call of the complainant alluring her with Rs 1 lakh and Akshay started blackmailing her with the video to have physical relation with him. Later, he posted the nude video on Instagram and WhatsApp following which the victim filed a complaint at Balianta police station on July 6.
Police managed to nab the duo from Rangabazar area of Balianta on Wednesday morning and forwarded to court. Both were sent to jail after their bail petition got rejected by a local court, said police.
During interrogation police found that two cases were pending against Akshay at Phulbani cyber police station and another two at Balianta. Besides, he was wanted by Lakshmisagar police in a case.
