Berhampur, May 19: Police have intensified their investigation into the assault on a youth and his female friend in Berhampur after a complaint was lodged at Berhampur Town Police Station. A case has been registered against five accused persons in connection with the attack.

Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M said police have identified all five accused involved in the incident. A special team led by Town Police Station IIC Ram Subramanyam Pradhan has been formed to trace and arrest the accused. Raids are being conducted at multiple locations, and the accused are expected to be arrested soon, the SP said.

The injured youth, identified as Umesh Rath, along with his female friend, is undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Umesh sustained a fracture in his leg and injuries on several parts of his body. Doctors said his condition is stable.

Police further revealed that Umesh Rath has around 15 criminal cases pending against him at different police stations in Berhampur and is currently out on conditional bail.
