Berhampur, Mar 2: Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur on Saturday convicted an Ex Data-Entry Operator (disengaged from service) in Ganjam for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant.
The accused identified as Samir Kumar Pattanayak was placed as an Data Entry Operator of the office of BEO in Jagannathprasad under Ganjam district. Pattanayak was earlier charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant (Teacher) to make online entry of purchase bills of utensils related to MDM programme and expenditure on Mid-Day Meal incurred by him.
For this offence, he has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs.3,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more.
The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs.2,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 month more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
