Iyer stable after spleen procedure, remains in Sydney for recovery.

There's a wave of relief spreading through the Indian cricket camp today. Star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from the hospital in Sydney. A significant step has been made in Shreyas Iyer's recovery from a serious internal injury, as per a health update from the BCCI on Saturday.

Iyer is now stable, but his journey over the last week has been tense. The incident happened during the third ODI of the India vs Australia ODI series on October 25. Known for his electric fielding, Iyer made a full-length diving attempt to catch a ball, landing heavily on his left side. He was in immediate and visible pain and had to be carried off the field.

While initial concerns pointed to a rib injury, the situation was far more serious. The BCCI’s official statement clarified that Iyer had "sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen... resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding." This worrying diagnosis led to him being moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close monitoring.

Thankfully, the medical team in Sydney acted fast. The BCCI medical update stated that the bleeding was "immediately arrested following a minor procedure." Iyer has since responded well to the treatment and is now recovering.

In their statement, the BCCI extended "heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best possible care."

This positive Indian cricket team news is a big morale booster. However, Iyer won't be boarding a flight home just yet. He will remain in Sydney for a short period for follow-up consultations. Doctors will only give him the green light to travel back to India once they are completely satisfied with his recovery and deem him fit to fly. Fans across Odisha and the country are wishing him a speedy and full recovery.
