Rourkela, Dec 26: Unidentified miscreants set a private bus named on fire near Balijhudi Square in Rourkela late last night. The bus, worth over Rs 2 crore, was parked and unoccupied at the time of the incident. The attackers poured flammable substances on the bus and set it ablaze before fleeing the scene.

Local residents noticed the smoke and flames and quickly alerted the fire brigade and police. Firefighters responded promptly and contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby vehicles and shops. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as the bus was parked and there were no passengers on board.

The bus, which had been purchased just 15 days ago, was parked while the permit was being processed. The owner has suffered significant financial loss due to the damage.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. They are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning locals to identify the culprits. A case has been registered, and further probe is ongoing.

Local transport operators have expressed concern over the incident and called for strict measures, including increased night patrolling, to ensure such incidents do not recur.
