Bhubaneswar, January 12: Special Public Prosecutor Rasmhi Ranjan Brahma of the Bhubaneswar District Court was recently honoured by Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate, for his exceptional contribution to the legal fight against drug trafficking.

Rasmhi Ranjan Brahma has become a cornerstone in the Bhubaneswar Special Court’s efforts to tackle cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. His diligent work has resulted in numerous high-profile convictions, particularly involving drug peddlers and traffickers who have been transacting drugs worth crores of rupees. His contribution to securing justice in these cases has been vital in curbing the growing menace of drug trafficking in the region.

A notable case that highlighted Brahma’s legal expertise occurred recently when the Bhubaneswar court sentenced several drug peddlers to long-term imprisonment. On December 23, the court sentenced five individuals involved in drug trafficking to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, alongside a fine of ₹1 lakh each. This verdict came after a thorough investigation and meticulous legal proceedings led by Brahma.

Earlier, on December 13, the court had convicted two drug peddlers to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each under the NDPS Act. The effective prosecution led by Brahma ensured that these criminals were held accountable for their role in the illegal drug trade.

The case of Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, who was sentenced on October 8 by the Bhubaneswar ADJ Court-2, further exemplifies Brahma’s significant role in securing convictions. Jena was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹1 lakh for his involvement in the drug trafficking network.

Throughout these cases, Brahma’s meticulous approach to legal procedures has played a key role in securing justice. By ensuring that charge sheets were properly filed and cases were meticulously presented in court, he helped ensure that the accused faced the full weight of the law.

Brahma’s dedication and persistence in prosecuting drug-related crimes have proven to be a strong deterrent for drug peddlers in Bhubaneswar and the surrounding areas. His work continues to send a clear message that the legal system will not tolerate drug trafficking, and those involved in such illegal activities will face stringent punishment.

This recognition from the Police Commissioner underscores Brahma’s outstanding contribution to the legal and judicial efforts to combat drug trafficking in Odisha. His unwavering commitment to justice continues to inspire both his colleagues and the community, reaffirming the importance of effective legal prosecution in the fight against drugs.Bottom of Form
