Bhubaneswar, August 9: The historic Barunei hill in Khordha district will be developed into a tourism corridor showcasing the glories of Paika Rebellion.
“The Barunei hill will be developed into a tourism corridor along with the proposed Paika Rebellion Memorial site. Besides, the historic Khordha Garh will be restored,” said Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida reviewing the proposed project on Thursday.
Former President Ram Nath Kovind on December 8, 2019 had laid the foundation stone for the Paika Memorial at Barunei to mark 200 years of the Paika Rebellion, an armed revolt against the British by the Paikas of Khordha in 1817, the first war of independence.
Our government is committed to complete the Paika Memorial and glorify the sacrifice and heroic deeds of our ancestors, said Parida directing the IOCL officials to work in coordination with the Culture and Tourism Department for early completion of the memorial.
