Bargarh, Nov 6: A day after a mob vandalized the Ambabhona police station, Bargarh SP Prahlad Sahai Meena confirmed on Monday that more than 100 individuals have been charged based on CCTV footage, and stringent action will be taken against those responsible for the incident.
The incident unfolded when a group of mostly young individuals engaged in a rampage, causing extensive damage to the police station. This upheaval followed a police raid on a picnic party at Tamdei, located on the Mahanadi riverbank, over alleged use of ganja on Sunday.
Despite finding nothing during the operation, a confrontation occurred between the group and the police, leading to the group's departure. Later in the evening, enraged youths purportedly stormed the police station, causing damage to tables, chairs, windowpanes, and computers before fleeing the scene.
The SP explained that the initial police action stemmed from information received by the IIC about drugs possibly being transported in a vehicle from Bargarh to Ambabhona. "They pursued the vehicle and conducted an inspection at Tamdei. However, no contraband was discovered at the location. The mob damaged furniture, CCTV cameras, and other items at the police station. We are currently reviewing the available CCTV footage, and the investigation is ongoing," he added.
Meanwhile, State BJP President Manmohan Samal has called for the arrest of BJD MLA Susanta Singh, alleging his presence at the scene when his supporters vandalized the police station.
