Puri, Aug 8: The Banakalagi Niti of Lord Jagannath and his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra at Puri Srimandir will be performed tomorrow (Wednesday).
As per the decision taken in the Shree Mandir Managing Committee meeting held last week, the Dutta Mohapatra servitors will perform the facial rituals of the deities. Devotees will be barred from having the darshan of the holy Trinity from 6 pm to 11 pm tomorrow owing to the ritual.
Notably, the Banakalagi ritual of the deities has been stalled for 40 days and should have been performed after the Niladribije ritual.
But a dispute arose between Dattamohapatra servitors and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). While the SJTA was insisting to hold the ritual on Wednesdays, the Dattamohapatra servitors were resolute on holding the ritual on Wednesdays.
The impasse was resolved on August 4 after several rounds of meetings as the Srimandir Managing Committee agreed to conduct the Banakalagi ritual of the deities twice a month, on Wednesdays.
