Puri, July 15: Puri Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb performed the ‘Chhera Panhara’ rituals on the chariots of Lord Jagannath, his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra after the Pahandi rituals concluded ahead of their return journey to Srimandir on Bahuda Yatra on Monday.
Gajapati arrived on the Grand Road in the bejewelled Palanquin and performed the ceremonial sweeping of the three chariot floors with a golden broom as the Adya Sevak (Prime servitor).
Before this, idols of the holy trinity were placed on their respective chariots, following the spectacular Pahandi rituals. The Dhadi Pahandi ritual commenced with the servitors escorting Lord Sudarsan to Debadalana, the chariot of Devi Subhadra.
Following this, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Jagannath were taken to their respective chariots in grand processions, accompanied by the rhythmic beating of gongs, the resonant blowing of conches, and the fervent chants of "Jay Jagannath."
The three majestic chariots now stand tall in front of the Gundicha Temple to bring back the holy trinity to the Srimandir.
