Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: Heavy rainfall of around 550 mm following cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’ has triggered a sharp rise in water levels in the Bahuda River in Ganjam district, prompting East Coast Railway (ECoR) to take precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety.
The water level at Baghalati Dam on the Bahuda River has crossed the danger mark. The water level at the railway bridge between Ichchapuram (IPM) and Jhadupudi (JPI) has also crossed the danger mark, affecting railway operations in the area.
In view of the situation, several trains operating on the Howrah–Chennai route have been diverted. ECoR is closely monitoring water levels and coordinating with the district administration to assess the situation and take necessary action.
A high-level meeting has been held to review the situation and coordinate measures to ensure the safety of railway operations and passengers.
Meanwhile, railway authorities are making arrangements to assist passengers stranded at different locations due to the disruption. Food and drinking water are being provided, while additional railway staff, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) have been deployed to guide passengers and address their grievances.
ECoR is also monitoring passenger complaints through social media, Rail Madad and other available channels to ensure timely assistance. Railway officials are regularly sharing updates on train operations through official communication channels, social media handles, mobile applications and the National Train Enquiry System (NTES).
Passengers have been advised to check the latest train status before starting their journeys and follow updates issued through ECoR’s official channels. The railway administration has urged passengers to cooperate with officials as the situation continues to be monitored.
