Bahanaga triple-train tragedy: AIIMS BBSR hands over 6 unclaimed bodies to BMC

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Tuesday handed over as many as 6 unclaimed bodies to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation  (BMC) authorities for mass cremation.

With turn up of no claimants either to identify or receive at least 28 unclaimed bodies of the victims, deceased in the Bahanaga train tragedy, preserved in the AIIMS Hospital Bhubaneswar, were finally decided to be legally disposed of.

Accordingly, the AIIMS began legal procedures for cremation of the unclaimed bodies today whereas a team of the BMC deported 6 bodies in the first phase to the Satyanagar cremation ground on special hearse vans, said sources.

Earlier on Sunday, the BMC had issued an SOP regarding the disposal of the 28 unidentified bodies, recovered from the triple–train spot at Bahanaga in Odisha’s Balasore district.

Worth mentioning, the tragic triple-train accident on June 2 had claimed 290 lives.
