Bhubaneswar, Oct 19: Soon after a Bhubaneswar Court ordered the auction of the mangled coaches of Shalimar bound Coromandel Express that were involved in the tragic accident near Bahanaga station in Odisha’s Balasore district, Railways on Tuesday auctioned the damaged 21 coaches for around Rs 3.8 crore.
According to the report, the Court of the 2nd Additional Sessions Judge, Bhubaneswar on Monday ordered for the auction of the 21 mangled coached including an engine. The advocate of the petitioner argued that there is no point of the debris to remain lying on the spot; the mangled coaches are creating hindrances for carrying out repair work on the railway track and the 3rd line work.
Notably, Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, Howrah-bound SMVP-Howrah Superfast Express and a good train were involved in a major accident near the Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha's Balasore district on June 2 evening killing around 290 people. The debris could not be cleared earlier as the CBI investigation into the triple train tragedy was underway.
