Puri, October 22: A 15-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being struck by a train near Janakadeipur railway station under the Chandanpur police limits in Puri district on Tuesday evening.

The deceased, identified as Biswajit Sahu of the Mangala Ghat area in Puri town, was reportedly on a pilgrimage. Sources said he had visited the Dakshinakali temple at Biragobindapur in Sakhigopal and later went to the Kamrupa temple at Birpratappur. While returning, he reached the railway crossing near Janakadeipur station, where the incident occurred.

Though the exact cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained, eyewitnesses say he was critically injured after being hit by a train at the crossing. Locals rushed to the spot, rescued him, and immediately shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Following the incident, a team from the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrived at the scene and has launched a probe into the matter.
