Jammu, Aug 28:The Centre has appointed B Srinivasan, a 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Bihar cadre, as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). Srinivasan assumes the role following the departure of Nalin Prabhat, who has been deputed as the Special Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Srinivasan as Director General, NSG, from the date of joining the post and up to August 31, 2027, i.e., the date of his superannuation," stated an order from the Ministry of Personnel.
In a related development, the Centre curtailed Nalin Prabhat's tenure as NSG Director General, facilitating his inter-cadre deputation from the Andhra Pradesh cadre to the Union Territories cadre (AGMUT) for an initial period of three years. Prabhat, a 1992-batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IPS officer, is set to take over as Special Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police following the retirement of RR Swain on September 30.
Prabhat has had a distinguished career, earning multiple accolades, including three Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Padak. At 55, he brings extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations, having previously led the Greyhounds, a specialised anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh. He has also served in significant roles within the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), such as Inspector General of Operations and Additional Director General in the Kashmir region.
Following Prabhat’s reassignment, the Centre temporarily assigned Anish Dayal Singh, the Director General of CRPF, additional charge as NSG Director General. A notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 15 stated, "Anish Dayal Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Manipur cadre, will hold the additional charge of Director General (DG) NSG until the joining of the regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier."
