Bhubaneswar, Nov 13:  Speculations are rife as to who will succeed Sunil Bansal, the present DGP whose tenure is going to be completed on December 31, 2023.

If IPS officer B Radhika is nominated, Odisha will have a woman Director General of Police, for the first time.

Speculation over Radhika’s possible appointment as the DGP grew stronger after the central government sent her back to Odisha on November 8.

Radhika was serving as Additional Director General, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

She went on central deputation in October 2018 and took charge as additional DG of the Border Security Force in November 2020. She will retire from government service in July 2024.

In the history of Odisha Police, 35 DGPs have worked so far, but none of them are from the fair sex. Radhika is likely to be made the first woman DGP of Odisha due to two reasons. First, her seniority and second, the ruling BJD government is playing the women's card keeping the general elections in view.
