Attempt to record video with hidden camera at Puri's Jagannath temple foiled

Puri, Aug 27:Security personnel at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri have successfully thwarted an attempt to record a video inside the sacred premises using a hidden camera disguised in a devotee's spectacles. Arup Ray, a visitor from West Bengal, was apprehended by the Jagannath Temple Police while wearing the spectacles equipped with the concealed recording device.

Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh confirmed that Ray was thoroughly examined by temple authorities, who uncovered the hidden camera. Ray's mobile phone has been seized for further investigation, and a case has been filed against him under the Shree Jagannath Temple Act. The spectacles, along with the camera, will be sent to the State Forensic Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for technical analysis.

SP Singh explained, "Arup Ray, who came to Puri with his family, was using spectacles with a hidden camera. The Jagannath Temple Police examined him at the entrance gate, where they found the device. Upon further verification, it was confirmed that the spectacles were fitted with a recording camera. His mobile phone has also been seized."

The incident came to light when Jagannath Temple Police officer Harihar Pratihari noticed the suspicious spectacles and raised an alarm. Ray has been detained at the Singh Dwar police station, and an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind his attempt to secretly record inside the temple.
