New Delhi, February 2: US President Donald Trump had a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, confirmed US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor. Sharing the update on social media platform X, Gor said, "President Trump just spoke with Prime Minister Modi. STAY TUNED..."

The phone call comes as the two countries make significant strides in negotiations for the much-anticipated Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), with expectations high that the deal could be finalized soon.

This follows a previous conversation between PM Modi and President Trump in December last year, where the leaders committed to deepening cooperation to address shared challenges and promote mutual interests. During that call, they reviewed the ongoing growth of India-US relations and discussed both regional and global issues. PM Modi later posted on X, "Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the U.S. will continue to work together for global peace, stability, and prosperity."

Both leaders emphasized their commitment to working closely together to foster peace, stability, and prosperity worldwide. In January, while attending the 56th Annual Summit of the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Trump expressed optimism about the progress of the India-US BTA, calling it "a good deal" and lauding PM Modi as both a close friend and a respected leader. When asked about the trade agreement, Trump said, "I have great respect for your Prime Minister. He's a fantastic man and a friend of mine, and we are going to have a good deal."

India's Commerce Secretary, Rajesh Agrawal, also recently mentioned that the first phase of the India-US BTA is "very near," though he did not provide a specific timeline for its completion.( ANI input)
