Assistant Executive Engineer gets four-year RI in graft case

Bhubaneswar, Sep 24: A Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack on Tuesday sentenced an Assistant Executive Engineer to four years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine after convicting him in a bribery case.

Srikanta Kumar Mahunta, Assistant Executive Engineer, Rural Works Sub Division, Basudevpur in Bhadrak district was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant (contractor) to do measurement and check measurement of the construction-road-work under PMGSY while he was serving as Assistant Engineer, Rural Works Sub Division, Pattamundai in Kendrapara district.

Upon his conviction, Mahunta was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the dismissal of Srikanta Kumar Mahunta from service following his conviction, said the Vigilance in a statement.
