Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: In yet another incident underscoring growing concerns over the safety record of Ama Buses, a bus allegedly hit a motorcycle on Janpath on Thursday, triggering tension in the area. Following the accident, angry locals vandalized the bus involved in the mishap.

The situation soon escalated as the agitated crowd went on to damage two more Ama Buses, taking the total number of vandalized buses to three. Amid the chaos, the driver and conductor reportedly abandoned the buses and fled the scene. Police rushed to the spot and are continuing efforts to bring the situation under control and disperse the crowd. Repeated involvement of Ama Buses in road accidents has once again raised serious questions about traffic management and operational oversight.

Meanwhile, a similar incident was reported from Puri, further intensifying concerns. On Nabakalebara Road, a bus hit an elderly woman from behind, leaving her critically injured. She was immediately rushed to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

The incident sparked protests by local residents, who blocked the road demanding accountability and assistance for the victim. The Tehsildar and police officials reached the spot, intervened to defuse the tension, and later facilitated the lifting of the road blockade.

As immediate relief, the injured woman was provided ₹50,000 as compensation. Officials also confirmed that additional financial assistance will be extended from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
