Bhubaneswar, May 23: Odisha Vigilance Department on Friday night apprehended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a Home Guard from the Bankoi police outpost while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs10, 000.
The accused have been identified as ASI Tushar Nayak and Home Guard P.K. Sundaray. The bribe was reportedly demanded for removing a person’s name from an official case diary.
Acting on a tip-off, a Vigilance team laid a trap and conducted a surprise raid at the police outpost around 11:30 PM, during which both accused were caught red-handed accepting the bribe. Officials seized the entire bribe amount from their possession.
Following the operation, Vigilance officials also carried out a search at ASI Nayak’s residence in Bankoi.
Both individuals have been taken to Bhubaneswar for further interrogation, a senior Vigilance DSP confirmed. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
