Cuttack, Nov 10: The Odisha government will organize its first-ever boat race, titled Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogita 2025, near the venue of the ongoing Baliyatra in Cuttack district, to celebrate the state's rich maritime heritage.

Scheduled for November 11, the two-day event will feature both men's and women's teams from 10 states, including Odisha.

One of the main attractions will be the Fly Boat Race, set to offer an exciting experience for spectators along the Mahanadi River, near Gadagadia Ghata.

According to the event schedule, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida will inaugurate the race at 11:45 AM on the opening day. The competition will continue on the second day, with races taking place from 8 AM to 4 PM.

On the concluding day of the event, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will felicitate the winners during a ceremony at the Gana Kabi Baishnaba Pani Manch.

The boat race will coincide with the historic Baliyatra, a festival that honors the bravery and entrepreneurial spirit of ancient Odia sailors, known as ‘Sadhavas,’ who embarked on long sea voyages for trade and cultural exchanges across Southeast Asia.
