Bhubaneswar, Jan. 9: Gyana Ranjan Barik of the Department of Computer Science Engineering (CSE) of Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) emerged as the best athlete among men and Solancee Urmani of SUM Nursing College (SNC) stood tall among women as the month-long sporting extravaganza for the SOA Cup came to a close at the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University here on Wednesday.

While Barik came first in Men’s high jump and long jump and finished third in 100 meter dash, Urmani was placed first in 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter sprint and clinched the first place being part of the Women’ Relay quartet.

Sriyanshu Sekhar Sahoo and Archana Das of CSE finished second overall in the track and field events. The department of CSE emerged as the overall champion in the competition.

Besides athletics, competitions were held in badminton, basketball, chess, cricket, football, kabaddi, kho kho, softball, table tennis, tennis, throw ball and volleyball in which more than 1500 students took part.

SOA Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda graced the valedictory function as the chief guest while Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Prasanta Kumar Patra attended as the guest of honour.

Former Odisha Ranji Trophy and India-A player Sanjay Satpathy, actor Anmol Pati and Producer and Creative Head of Colours TV Channel Pritiraj Satpathy also attended the program.

Prof. Nanda congratulated all the winners while emphasizing on the role of sports in character building in students. Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das, Dean (Students’ Welfare), Ms. Sunita Barma, Sports Officer, Dr. Sujyotsna Jena, Convenor of SOA Cup event for 2025-26 and Mr. Priyam Mallick, Assistant Manager, Sports, also spoke.
