Cuttack, Dec 4: The body of the missing youth, Udit Sahu, was recovered this morning from the Birupa river near IB Road under Jagatpur police limits. The rescue team of the Fire Services spotted the body during an ongoing search operation launched after a car plunged into the river on Wednesday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, around 7 PM on Wednesday, a white battery-operated car speeding along IB Road suddenly lost control and veered straight into the Birupa river near the Dak Bungalow area close to Fakirpur Pandasahi. Locals rushed to the riverbank after hearing cries for help. One youth was saved after nearby residents immediately jumped into the water and pulled him out.

However, another youth who was inside the vehicle remained missing. Fire Services and police teams launched a massive search operation, which continued late into the night. After nearly five and a half hours of effort, the submerged car was pulled out of the river, but there was no trace of the second youth.

The search operation resumed early this morning, leading to the recovery of the missing youth’s body from the river. Police have initiated further investigation into how the vehicle lost control and plunged into the river.
