Balangir, Nov 15: Distressed over crop loss due to pest attack, a farmer in Bubel village under Puintala block in Odisha’s Balangir district allegedly ended life by consuming poison on Tuesday.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Ramesh Bhoi.
Ramesh consumed poison while spraying pesticide on Tuesday night. He was rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed on Wednesday morning during treatment, sources said.
According to the information, Ramesh had cultivated crops on 10 acres of land of which five acres was damaged due to ‘Chakada’ pest attack. He had sprayed pesticides three times, but in vein. Distressed over this, he consumed poison.
