Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled two-day visit to Odisha from Saturday has been postponed.
The visit of the union home minister has been postponed after the Centre declared a seven-day mourning in honour of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a BJP leader said.
“Due to the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled two-day visit to Odisha from Saturday has been postponed,” the senior BJP leader said.
The Union Home Minister was scheduled to attend a programme of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and hold a meeting with BJP MPs, MLAs and workers at an event in Kalinga Stadium here.
The Centre has declared a seven-day mourning in memory of the former Prime Minister, who died on Thursday night in New Delhi at the age of 92.
Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932. Apart from being an economist, he served as Reserve Bank of India governor from 1982-1985. He was the 13th PM of India with his tenure from 2004-2014 and was the longest-serving PM after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
