New Delhi, May 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday with Chief Ministers and top officials from several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, to review the security situation amid rising tensions with Pakistan.
Chief Ministers from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, and West Bengal participated in the meeting. Also in attendance were the Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, along with Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police (DGPs) from the respective states.
The meeting was convened in the wake of Operation Sindoor, a major military initiative launched by the Indian Army targeting nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation follows the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, which resulted in significant casualties and heightened security concerns across the border regions.
In the lead-up to the meeting, Home Minister Shah spoke with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Abdullah and has maintained regular contact with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). Shah has instructed the BSF to implement all necessary safety measures for residents in border areas.
Earlier today, LG Manoj Sinha conducted a review of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir’s border districts. He directed District Collectors to begin relocating villagers from high-risk zones to safer areas, ensuring that all essential services—such as food, shelter, medical care, and transportation—remain accessible.
"We are committed to the safety of every citizen. Jai Hind!" the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of J&K posted on X. Sinha emphasized that the administration is fully prepared to handle any emergency that may arise.
