Puri, Mar 18: The darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri will be suspended for four hours on Wednesday in view of the Banakalagi ritual of the Holy Trinity.

Temple sources said the Banakalagi Niti will be performed on the occasion of Magha Krishna Chaturthi, with general darshan closed from 6 pm to 10 pm.

Also known as Shreemukha Shringara, the ritual will commence after the completion of the second Bhoga Mandap offering. During Banakalagi, the Dutta Mohapatra sevayats apply natural colours: conch shell for white, black from diya soot, Haritala for red, Hingula for yellow, along with other naturally sourced substances. Kasturi is also applied to protect the Sibling Deities during the process. The ritual is expected to last nearly five hours.

While the main temple will remain closed to the public for darshan, devotees can continue to offer prayers to other deities residing within the temple premises during this period.
