New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, January 6: Aparajita Sarangi, BJP MP from Bhubaneswar and Chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, announced that the next committee meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday. Sarangi revealed that representatives from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, the National Law University, Delhi, and the Law Commission of India have been invited to attend.

Sarangi, also the Bhubaneswar MP, noted that the Vice-Chancellors and officer bearers from these institutions would be present at the meeting to share their views on the proposed amendments. Expressing optimism about the process, she emphasized that the consultations with both organizations and individuals had already commenced, with Wednesday marking the start of comprehensive hearings.

"We are set to hold the third meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee, formed by the Lok Sabha, to review the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill and related bills. Tomorrow, we will hear from the Law Commission of India, the National Law University, Delhi, and NALSAR, Hyderabad. The Vice-Chancellors and officer bearers will submit their opinions on the bills. I believe this is the beginning of a fruitful consultation process with various stakeholders," Sarangi told ANI.

She also highlighted that the first meeting had been an introductory session, where committee members gathered to discuss the broader aspects of the three bills under review. The meeting, according to Sarangi, was marked by a spirit of camaraderie and productive dialogue. "The first meeting was a very friendly one. We came together as members and discussed the three bills in detail, along with our mandate. It was a positive and cooperative atmosphere, reflecting the strong committee structure formed by the Lok Sabha," Sarangi added.

The 130th Amendment Bill, 2025, seeks to introduce provisions for the removal of a Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or any Minister who remains in detention for 30 consecutive days on charges punishable by at least five years of imprisonment. If the detained leader does not resign, their office will automatically fall vacant after 31 days, though reappointment is possible after their release.

Sarangi, as Chairperson, leads a committee consisting of 31 members from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The committee includes prominent figures such as Ravi Shankar Prasad, Bhartruhari Mahtab, Pradan Baruah, Brijmohan Agrawal, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Supriya Sule, and Asaduddin Owaisi from Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha members include Brij Lal, Ujjwal Nikam, Nabam Rebia, Dr. K. Laxman, Sudha Murty, Birendra Prasad Baishya, and S. Niranjan Reddy.
