Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: President of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Mallikarjun Kharge will visit Bhubaneswar on January 29 to address a workers’ conference, said party in-charge Ajoy Kumar on Friday.
Ahead of the 2024 election, AICC chief Kharge will hold discussions on the party’s strategy with senior leaders of the state unit during his visit.
He will also review the preparations for Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra when Rahul Gandhi tours through Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts, said Ajoy Kumar
The Odisha unit feels Rahul’s visit would help the party to take on the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the coming election.
On Friday, Congress constituted its state election committee for the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly polls in Odisha. The 23-member committee to be headed by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak, wll have members including the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Narasingh Mishra, former state presidents Niranjan Patnaik, Jaydev Jena, Prasad Harichandan, campaign committee chairman Bijay Patnaik, former union minister Bhakta Charan Das, AICC secretary Sarat Rout, party MP Saptagiri Ulaka and party MLA Santosh Singh Saluja.
Apart from them, five senior women leaders- former MP Sushila Tiria, former CM Hemananda Biswal’s daughter Amita Biswal, national women Congress secretary Sasmita Behara, women Congress state unit president Bandita Patnaik and former MLA Ajayanti Pradhan -have found place in the state election committee.
Besides, all chiefs of frontal organisations of the party are ex-officio members of the committee.
