Bhubaneswar, June 3: Ahead of the counting of votes scheduled for tomorrow, Odisha Cabinet today recommended for dissolution of the 16th Legislative Assembly.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chaired the cabinet meeting virtually where it was decided to inform the Governor about the completion of the BJD Government's tenure and recommended the dissolution of the Assembly.
It is worth mentioning that before the declaration of election results, a formal procedure takes place according to constitutional provisions.
The state Cabinet will pass a resolution to dissolve the assembly once the election results are announced. Following this, Cabinet members will submit their resignation letters to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister will then recommend to the Governor that the Assembly be dissolved to make way for the formation of the new government.
Notably, the elections to 21 Lok Sabha and 147 Assembly seats in the state were conducted simultaneously in four phases --- May 13, 20, 25, and June 1. The counting of votes will take place tomorrow.
