Winter Tightens Grip: Interior Odisha Sees Temperatures Plummet Below 10°C

Winter conditions are becoming increasingly prominent across the state, with the latest reports from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar indicating a sharp drop in night temperatures. As of November 29, 2025, dry weather patterns have settled over the region, paving the way for crisp, cold nights, particularly in the interior and hilly districts.

The Coldest Spots in the State

The chill is most severe in the hill stations. G. Udayagiri has recorded the lowest temperature in the state, dropping to a shivering 8.3°C. Following closely behind in the plains is Phulbani, which recorded a minimum temperature of 10.0°C. Other areas are also feeling the freeze, with Koraput recording 10.2°C and Daringbadi sitting at exactly 10°C.

Jharsuguda also saw a significant dip, recording 10.4°C, which is a noteworthy departure of -3.9 degrees from its normal average, indicating a sharper onset of winter than usual for the district.

Foggy Mornings Return

Alongside the dropping mercury, visibility has become a concern in specific pockets of the state. The weather department reported "Dense Fog" in Phulbani and Rourkela, where visibility ranged between 50 to 200 meters. Meanwhile, Bhawanipatna and Koraput experienced "Moderate Fog," with visibility hovering between 200 and 500 meters. Commuters in these areas are advised to exercise caution during early morning hours.

Twin Cities and Maximums

While the interior districts shiver, the coastal belt remains relatively moderate. The capital city, Bhubaneswar, recorded a minimum temperature of 17.2°C and a maximum of 29.8°C. Neighboring Cuttack saw a slightly cooler night at 16.0°C with a daytime high of 27.2°C.

Interestingly, despite the overall cooling trend, some heat persists during the day. Dhenkanal registered the highest maximum temperature in the state, peaking at 31.5°C.

As dry weather continues to prevail, residents across Odisha, especially in western and interior districts, should prepare for colder nights ahead.
