Bhubaneswar, February 18: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 4 PM on Wednesday amid noisy scenes after Opposition MLAs staged a protest at the Well of the House.

As soon as the met at 10.30 AM for the second day of the ongoing Budget Session, BJD and Congress members were up on their feet raising slogans against the Government, accusing it of large-scale mismanagement in paddy mandis across the state.

The protesting legislators trooped into the Well of the House raising, holding bundles of paddy to symbolically highlight farmers’ issues and banners.

Opposition members also placed paddy on the Assembly reporters’ table to register their protest. They demanded immediate intervention of the State Government to address procurement delays and alleged irregularities affecting farmers.

Despite repeated appeals by Speaker Surama Padhy to maintain order in the House and allow proceedings to continue, the sloganeering and commotion persisted.

Amid the furore, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till 11.30 AM.

Similar scenes were witnessed when the House reassembled. Unable to run the House, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 4 PM.

As per the List of Business scheduled for Wednesday, a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Budget Address was supposed to begin today.
