G Udaygiri, Sept 26: Several houses in Ward No. 4 of Udayagiri Notified Area Council, particularly in the Srirampada locality, have been severely damaged following heavy rain and strong winds in the area.

Among those worst affected is Minati Nayak, a woman living alone after the death of her husband. Suffering from paralysis and mental health problems, Minati is now left without a safe shelter after her house was completely destroyed in the rain and wind.

Unable to fully understand or respond to the situation due to her health condition, Minati continues to sit inside the remains of her damaged house. The three-wheeler cycle provided to her by the government is currently being kept under a tree near the house by local residents, as the structure is no longer safe for use or storage.

With her household utensils and other belongings destroyed under the debris of the mud-and-thatch walls, Minati is currently dependent on neighbours and local residents for food and other basic necessities.

Although the rain has subsided, Minati remains without proper shelter or support. Local residents have urged the authorities to provide immediate assistance and a safe place for her to stay.

Minati is not the only person affected. Several other houses in the locality have also been damaged. Mamuni Nayak, whose house was also partially damaged, continues to live in the unsafe structure despite the risk to her safety.

Meanwhile, near Rattingia, the embankment of the Madhujhari canal reportedly breached following the heavy rainfall, resulting in extensive damage to paddy crops and leaving many farmers facing losses.

Residents have appealed to the administration to assess the damage, provide immediate relief to affected families and take necessary steps to protect vulnerable residents and agricultural land from further damage.
