Bhubaneswar, Sep 16: After the opposition Congress and BJP threatened to boycott the Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker election due to Nuakhai, the election date has been rescheduled and it will be held on September 22.

The opposition had decided to boycott the election, which was scheduled to be held on September 21. It coincided with the ‘Nuakhai’ festival, an agrarian event in the western region of the state.

Both the opposition parties accused the BJD government of maintaining a “step-motherly” attitude towards the people of the western region of the state.
