Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: A day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced creation of 34 Notified Area Councils (NACs) and up-gradation of five NACs into municipalities, protests erupted at several left-out places across the state.
As per reports, several local outfits are observing bandh in Kalahandi’s M Rampur, Subranapur’s Subalaya and Binika, Bolangir’s Bongomunda, Sambalpur’s Bamra and Balasore’s Baliapal protesting against the state government’s failure to grant NAC status to the aforementioned regions.
Commercial establishments in Baliapal remained closed as the Swabhiman Bikas Mancha of Balasore called for a 12-hour bandh demanding NAC status to the region.
While a bandh demanding NAC status is being observed in Bolangir’s Bangomunda and Sonepur’s Subalaya today, locals of Sambalpur’s Bamra are gearing up for a 12-hour bandh on February 28.
Similarly, after Boudh’s Manamunda failed to get the NAC status, Kriyanusthan Committee observed bandh on Monday. All the shops and commercial establishments in the area remained closed owing to the bandh.
After missing the NAC tag, a 12-hour bandh was also observed in Boudh’s Loisingha on Saturday demanding the same. A dawn-to-dusk bandh was also observed in Purunakatak area which also missed the NAC tag.
It is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced creation of 34 Notified Area Councils (NAC) in 20 districts and upgradation of five NACs into municipalities in four districts of the state on Monday.
