He-Man leaves behind an unmatched cinematic legacy

Indian cinema suffered a monumental loss today as veteran actor Dharmendra, affectionately known to millions as the "He-Man" of Bollywood, passed away. He was 89 years old. The legendary star breathed his last at his Mumbai residence on Monday, November 24, 2025, plunging the entertainment fraternity and fans worldwide into mourning.

According to reports, the actor had been struggling with health complications recently. Earlier this month, he was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital following complaints of respiratory distress. Despite medical attention, the icon has now bid farewell to the world.

A Career of Unmatched Charisma

Dharmendra's journey from a village in Ludhiana, Punjab, to the pinnacle of Mumbai's film industry is nothing short of a fairytale. Born Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol, he made his debut in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. Over the next six decades, he redefined the image of the Indian leading man. He was unique in his ability to balance rugged, action-packed roles in films like Phool Aur Patthar and Loha with sensitive, comic, or romantic performances in classics such as Chupke Chupke and Satyakam.

His contribution to the arts was formally recognized by the Government of India in 2012 when he was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, the country's third-highest civilian award. From the rustic charm of Mera Gaon Mera Desh to the blockbuster success of Sholay, his filmography is a testament to his versatility. Even in his later years, he remained dedicated to his craft. Fans will have one last opportunity to see their idol on the big screen in the war drama Ikkis, which is scheduled for release on December 25.

Family and Personal Life

The superstar is survived by a large and loving family. He leaves behind his first wife, Prakash Kaur, and their children: actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and daughters Ajeeta and Vijeta. He is also survived by his second wife, the celebrated actress Hema Malini, and their daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

A Star Connected to his Roots

Despite his massive stardom, Dharmendra never lost touch with his earthy roots. In recent years, he became a social media sensation, frequently posting videos from his farmhouse. He loved sharing glimpses of his organic lifestyle, often seen driving a tractor or tending to his crops, offering life wisdom to his younger followers.

His passing marks the end of a golden chapter in Indian history, but his work ensures he will live on forever in the hearts of cinema lovers.
