Bhubaneswar, March 15: While the Rajya Sabha Elections in the state are afoot & at least 42 BJD MLAs are almost united to vote for the official candidates and the common candidate, two BJD MLAs are yet to turn up in the BJD camp.

Jayadev MLA Naba Kishore Mallick and Baliguda MLA Chakramani Kanhar have not reached the Naveen Niwas so far, where they were asked to report by 9 PM tonight. However, response of the concerned MLAs on their absenteeism at the Naveen Niwas, is awaited.

At the same time, two suspended BJD MLAs namely Sanatan Mahakud and Arvind Mohapatra’s stance regarding the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled tomorrow remains suspense.

The Biju Janata Dal(BJD) authorities on Sunday issued show cause notices to Legislators Kanhar and Mallick, following their frequent absence in a slew of meetings conducted centering the Rajya Sabha Polls.

The action was initiated against the Jayadev MLA & the Baliguda MLA, reportedly for their deliberate absence in the crucial meetings held at the Naveen Niwas yesterday.

BJD Chief Whip, Pramila Mallik issued the notices on behalf of the party wherein she had asked the concerned MLAs to report the Naveen Niwas by 9.30 PM today.

According to a press release issued by the BJD, Jayadev MLA Naba Kishore Mallick and Baliguda MLA Chakramani Kanhar defied the party whip & skipped crucial meetings at the Naveen Niwas, chaired by BJD President Naveen Patnaik relating the Rajya Sabha elections.

The Show-Cause notices read, “Despite the issuance of a whip mandating presence in Naveen Niwas your attendance at these crucial meetings has been lacking. Considering this communication as a Show-cause notice, you are hereby directed to report to Naveen Niwas by 9 PM on March 15th, 2026”
