Berhampur, Mar 19: Police on Tuesday busted an adulterated spice manufacturing unit at Brajarajnagar area under Bada Bazar police limits of Berhampur.
Acting on a tip-off, Bada Bazar police conducted a raid on the unit and seized adulterated spices like Chilli powder, turmeric powder etc. During the search, it was found that, the owner of the unit was supplying those products to nearby markets and Berhampur market without the necessary licenses. Police have seized large quantities of spices, raw materials, and packaging materials. Surprisingly, the packets lacked any labels.
The food safety officer from the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) was summoned and under his supervision, a thorough inspection of the items was carried out, and samples were collected for laboratory testing.
Owner Shiba Shankar Sahu failed to present essential documents such as a food license or the BeMC license during interrogation. Consequently, the police proceeded to seal the godown and detained Sahu for further questioning.
During the interrogation process, employees of the godown revealed that the products were being supplied to both the Berhampur market and nearby markets.
Sources said that if Sahu is found guilty, appropriate legal actions will be initiated against him.
