Dhenkanal, Jan 16: A wild elephant that suffered severe injuries after consuming an explosive device tragically died while being transported to the Kapilash Elephant Treatment Center for advanced medical care. The elephant, rescued with the help of the specially designed vehicle Airavat, was being moved from Angul to Kapilash Zoo in Dhenkanal when the incident occurred.

The injured tusker was initially spotted near Pathargada Sahi in Baluakata village, Bantala forest area of Angul. Forest officials from Angul immediately provided primary medical treatment with support from veterinarians from Kapilash, Satkosia, and Angul, before attempting to transfer the animal for specialized care.

The Angul Forest Division reported that the elephant had deep wounds on its mouth and jaw caused by the explosion. A crane was used to safely lift the animal into the rescue vehicle for transportation.

The Angul DFO stated that the elephant had been injured for approximately 6 to 7 days and had recently moved from the Hindol area of Dhenkanal district to Bantala in Angul. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and have assured strict action against those responsible for the attack.

This unfortunate incident highlights the dangers faced by wildlife due to human negligence and illegal activities.
