Ladakh, Aug 19: In a tragic incident that occurred in the Leh district of Ladakh on Saturday, as many as nine soldiers were killed in a road mishap at Kerey in southern Ladakh's Nyoma on Saturday evening.
The incident took place at around 6.30 pm when the truck carrying the victims veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. Additionally, one other official sustained injuries.
Among the deceased, there were eight soldiers and one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). The ill-fated truck was in transit from the Karu garrison to Kyari near Leh at the time of the accident. The incident occurred while the truck was part of a convoy consisting of 34 personnel, which included an SUV and an ambulance. These three vehicles were part of a reconnaissance party.
Authorities have confirmed that rescue operations are currently underway at the site.
