Bhubaneswar, Feb 16: While the Airfield Police have taken up the investigation of the Bhubaneswar blast, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing it from the angle of terrorism. Meanwhile, the national investigation agency ruled out the use of RDX components in the explosion, took place at the Sundarpada area of the city.

The NIA sleuths are closely examining the CCTV footage, to reach out the miscreants and the modus operandi behind the bomb-making unit.

Worth mentioning, the violent blast occurred at Azad Nagar under the Airfield police limits on January 27, 2026, left four persons grievously injured. One among them, reportedly the kingpin of the bomb-making unit, succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Among the critical ones, was alleged criminal Sehanbaz Mallik, who died a while ago, putting a question mark on his role in preparing bombs at his home.

Mallik’s mother, who was one among the injured ones, also succumbed to injuries.

Based on the Airfields report, the State Forensic Science Laboratory(SFSL) also examined the samples collected from the scene, and found no traces of RDX components in the bombs, went off on the spot.

Further investigation is underway, the string of the crime relating the blast will soon come to light, said police.
