New Delhi, Sep 9: Ahead of the Vice-Presidential election later in the day, NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday expressed confidence in securing victory and stated that it would be a win for "Indian nationalism."
He visited the Ram Temple at Lodhi Road in New Delhi to offer prayers.
Speaking to reporters after the prayers, Radhakrishnan said, "We are all one, we will be one. We aspire for India to become 'Viksit Bharat', and this victory will pave the way for that."
Currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra, Radhakrishnan is facing former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy, the nominee of the INDIA bloc, in the election.
Voting will take place from 10 AM to 5 PM at the New Parliament Building in New Delhi. The counting of votes will begin after 6 PM, with the results anticipated to be announced later in the evening.
This election carries considerable political significance, as the Vice President of India also serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, a role that is pivotal to the smooth functioning of Parliament.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to cast the first vote. Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Ram Mohan Naidu, along with Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, have been designated as official election agents for the process.
Political observers anticipate a closely watched contest, although the NDA is considered to have a numerical edge in the combined strength of both Houses.
However, all attention is on the possibility of cross-voting and the final outcome later this evening.
