Crackdown on brown sugar trade in Bhadrak: 5 arrested, over 35 grams seized

Bhadrak, Sept 5: In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Bhadrak Town Police have arrested five individuals and seized over 35 grams of brown sugar in two separate operations conducted within the city limits.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs and under the direct supervision of the Bhadrak SP, the Town Police launched targeted raids against brown sugar peddlers. The operations were carried out under the leadership of the Town Police Station Officer.

In the first raid, conducted at Charigharia Chhak, a Honda car was intercepted by the police. A thorough search led to the recovery of 25.95 grams of brown sugar, ₹10,000 in cash, and the seizure of the vehicle. Three youths from Keonjhar district were taken into custody at the scene.

In a separate incident late last night, two youths moving suspiciously during routine patrolling were detained by police. A subsequent search resulted in the recovery of 9.79 grams of brown sugar. One of the accused, identified as Raja Malik of Baula Pokhari in Bhadrak, was riding a motorcycle bearing a West Bengal registration number.

In total, police have seized 35.74 grams of brown sugar, along with a car and a motorcycle, and arrested five accused in connection with the two cases. All the accused have been produced in court following their arrest.

Police have reiterated their commitment to continue such operations to curb the rising menace of drug trafficking in the region.
