Bhubaneswar, March 30: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Saturday seized over 9 kg of raw gold in Odisha’s Cuttack while being smuggled from Kolkata.
Two persons were held and a car was seized in this connection at Manguli toll gate in the Cuttack town.
Sources said,sleuths of the DRI had laid a trap near Manguli toll gate based on a reliable tip of from the informer. Meanwhile, a car with the specified number carrying the gold passed on the route. All of a sudden, the DRI officials intercepted it. During the inspection, about 9,180 grams of gold biscuits were found inside the vehicle. The value of the gold is estimated to be around Rs 6.5 crore.
The accused persons were booked under Customs Act whereas an investigation was initiated to ascertain the sources and targeted receivers of the smuggled gold, said a DRI official.
